I am drawn to the lyrics of Shiina Ringo that say, “I want to create something that should exist in this world.” I use it as a source of inspiration when I work, and I think the reason for that is the delicate balance this phrase holds.
It would sound fake if I said I do it for the sake of society or justice. It’s not just for myself, but rather being aware of the world. And the evaluation of value lies within myself. It implies a stance that distinguishes itself from social evaluation, and that is also wonderful. Research is not always something that everyone will immediately appreciate, but I find value in it based on my own principles. So, even if it may not be useful, researchers who find value in their own research should strive in their modest and challenging research activities with the spirit of “I want to create something that should exist in this world.”

I completely understand (blu3mo)(blu3mo)(blu3mo)
- I don’t live with a sense of altruism, wanting to contribute to the world
- I create things that I believe are “good” and should exist in this world based on my own definition of “good”
